PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The University of Pikeville women's golf team captured the team championship at the Orange and Black Collegiate Tuesday at StoneCrest Golf Course, finishing the 54-hole tournament with a score of 898 (+58).

The Bears opened the tournament with a 297 (+17) before carding a 302 (+22) in the second round. UPIKE closed with a 299 (+19) in Tuesday's final round to secure the team title.

Tayla Howroyd led the way individually, claiming medalist honors with a three-round total of 214 (+4). Howroyd opened with an even-par 70 before carding a 71 (+1) in the second round and a 73 (+3) in the final round.

Tiffanie Tran also turned in a strong performance for the Bears, finishing tied for sixth at 17-over 227. Tran recorded rounds of 78, 76 and 73, closing the tournament with her best round of the week.

Darcy Lawson and Laney Sorrell both finished tied for 12th at 23-over 233. Lawson posted rounds of 79, 79 and 75, while Sorrell carded a 70 in the opening round before finishing with rounds of 85 and 78.

Keira Howroyd rounded out UPIKE's team scoring, finishing 17th with a 54-hole total of 236 (+26) after rounds of 79, 76 and 81.

Competing as an individual, Kaitlyn Stepp finished tied for 19th at 241 (+31), improving in the final round with a 77.

With the team championship and individual medalist honors, the Bears turned in a strong showing on their home course to open the fall portion of their schedule.

UPIKE will return to action September 28-29 at the Invite at Innisbrook, hosted by Dalton State College, in Palm Harbor, FL.
