CORBIN, Ky. – The University of Pikeville men's soccer team pitched a pair of shutouts last week, and this week has started with one of them being honored by the AAC.
 
Alejandro Iglesias, the starting goalkeeper, has been named defensive player of the week in a vote of the league's sports information directors.
 
Iglesias, a 6-3 sophomore from Madrid, Spain, was honored by the conference on Monday.
 
Iglesias spent all 180 minutes in goal for the Bears, who went 1-0-1 in two games. The week opened with a 0-0 tie against Johnson (Tenn.) University on Wednesday. On Saturday, the Bears went on the road and blanked Columbia (S.C.) College 2-0.
 
He recorded three saves on Wednesday against the Royals. On Saturday, he turned away nine shots on goal by the Koalas.
 
For the season, Iglesias has started six times in goal. He has turned away 31 shots on goal, or 73.8 percent of the attempts he's faced.
 
UPike will be back in action on Wednesday when Bluefield (Va.) University comes to town. They will also play Georgia Gwinett College on Friday with a special start time of 1 p.m.
