HENDERSON, Tenn. – A 23-match losing streak has come to an end as the University of Pikeville men's soccer team captured a 15-0 win over Johnson (Tenn.) on Saturday night in the final match of the 2013 Lions Cup hosted by Freed Hardeman University.
The 15 goals are a program record, surpassing the 11-0 mark set in 2009 in a win over Tennessee Temple. Dean Johnson and Cooper Gaypia finished with six goals each, snapping the single-game scoring record previously held by Ken McAlpine of five.
Donald Anderson, Mateus Meira and Colin Conaway also got in on the act for UPIKE with a goal each.
Pikeville had not won a match since Nov. 12, 2011 when it topped Salem International 4-3 at home. Now the Bears will look to keep the winning ways going with a trip to Ohio Valley (W. Va.) up next on the schedule Monday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
