Box Score NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. -- The University of Pikeville men's soccer team broke open a close game against Penn State-Beaver in the second half with four goals to win 6-2 on Sunday.
Eric Bernabeu got the Bears off to a quick start with a sixth-minute goal, but Beaver eventually answered back in the 33rd minute before Jorge Mejia's score six minutes later helped UPIKE to a 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, UPIKE went on a 3-0 run with goals in the 57th, 69th and 86th minutes to break the game open. Bernabeu reached a hat trick with the first two goals, followed by Andres Miranda netting the third in the half to make it a 5-1 UPIKE lead.
Zhaopeng Wan of Beaver and Oscar Pacheco of the Bears ended the game with goals in the final two minutes, but Pikeville's lead was too much for Beaver to overcome.
UPIKE contolled the offense all game long, outshooting the Lions 28-5 overall and 21-4 in shots on goal. Corner kicks went the Bears' way 6-1, as did fouls 12-7. Anibal Navarro made a pair of saves for UPIKE and Beaver's Samuel Sharpless collected 15.
