UPIKE eSports Enters Week Four of MSC Overwatch Tournament at 2-1

MSC Tournament Home Page

Pikeville, KY –
UPIKE eSports is in full swing this fall, competing in the 2021 MSC Fall Overwatch Tournament. Through three rounds, the team has gone 2-1.

Nicholas Alverson heads up the program in his first full season as a head coach and has begun the process of growing the program to keep pace with the overall landscape of the sport. eSports has gained traction nationwide, and the Mid-South Conference now sanctions tournaments amongst member schools.

Currently the Bears compete in Overwatch, a team-based first-person shooter which assigns players into two teams of six. Each player selects from a large roster of "heroes" which all have unique abilities. Teams are tasked with completing map-specific objectives within an allotted time period.

Five MSC schools are participating in the fall Overwatch bracket including Shawnee State University, Cumberland University, St. Thomas University, and Campbellsville University. The regular season tournament is a best of three, Round Robin structure with the playoffs set to determine a winner at the end of the season. The playoffs features a single elimination, best of three bracket with the semifinal and final rounds being best of five.

The Bears opened the Overwatch campaign against St. Thomas, completing a reverse sweep of the Bobcats. Jordan Cantor and Benjamin Hall led the team in DPS and healing to carry the Bears to victory.
UPIKE fell to a strong SSU team in week two, falling in both games on a close map.

Week three saw the Bears face-off with the Tigers of Campbellsville, defeating the Tigers 2-1. UPIKE dropped game one before coming back to win two straight and take the match, putting the Bears at 2-1 on the season.

Cumberland University is next up for the Bears in round five which is slated for Wednesday, October 6th at 9:30 PM. The match can be streamed live here.
