Marietta, OH – The University of Pikeville women's track & field team began their indoor season on Friday at the Marietta First Glimpse meet at Marietta College. The women finished in fifth place out of six teams, scoring 24 points.
Four Bears were in action in both the shot put and weight throws, with all but one in their first-ever indoor collegiate meet.
In her first indoor collegiate event,
Valerie Kendrick won the shot-put throw with a mark of 12.99m, besting the competition by over a meter. This set a new program record for the shot put throw. This gave UPIKE 10 points. In the weight throw, Kendrick finished in seventh with a throw of 10.62m and earned two more points for the Bears.
Miracle Taylor finished in fifth in the shot put with a throw of 9.97m to record four points for UPIKE. She led the Bears with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 13.34m, scoring five more points. This was also a new program record for the weight throw.
Bethany Tackett placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 9.77m, scoring two points for UPIKE. She finished eighth in the weight throw at 9.83m and earned one more point.
Verlecia Scarlett had a throw of 9.10m in the shot put before not recording a mark in the weight throw.

The Bears will be back in action next Friday when they head to Crawfordsville, Indiana for the Horace Turner Open hosted by Wabash College.
