Results
Louisville, KY – UPIKE Track and Field traveled to the brand-new Norton Health and Wellness Center for Saturday's Kentucky Collegiate Invitational, in what will be the final indoor event of the Spring. Collectively, the event was the program's best performance of the season as the Bears boasted their first individual champion and several personal achievements.
Bristow, WV native
Bobby Allums recorded a first-place finish in the 400M event with a time of 52.00. The individual win is the second for Bobby this season and his time in the 400 is a season high for the sophomore, besting his time from the Tiffin Dragon Open by just over two seconds. Alums also competed in the 200 and finished in 23.41 to place eighth.
Men's Field
Noah Thomas made the final rounds in both the shot-put and weight throw events for the first time this season. The sophomore's best throw in the shot-put came in the final round where he managed a distance of 13.43 meters. Teammate
Ethan Rowe threw for a season best distance of 10.48 in the shot-put, finishing 23
rd. Thomas managed a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 12.63 meters while Rowe recorded a lifetime best 9.68 meter throw and finished 22
nd.
Women's Field
Vero Beach, FL native
Verlecia Scarlett competed in both the weight throw and shot-put portions on the women's side. The sophomore made the finals round in the shot-put, throwing for a season-best 10.74 meters, tying the school record which she set a season ago. Scarlett was just outside of the finals in the weight throw, finishing 11
th with a distance of 11.78 meters.
Men's Track
Aside from Allum, UPIKE's
Jonah Bell also achieved a significant milestone on the day in the 5000. Bell crossed the finish line with a time of 21:06.51 which is a lifetime best for the freshman.
Women's Track
Kim Lester competed in a trio of events on Saturday, running in the 60, 200, and 400 events. Lester's best finish of the day came in the 400 where the junior finished 10
th with a time of 1:03.31, trumping her previous season best by over a second.
Head Coach
David Espinoza and his team now set their sights on outdoor season. "I am super excited and pleased on how we competed today," said Espinoza. "A lot of PR's and best marks. It's awesome to have an individual champion in Bobby in the 400. This set us up very well for outdoor season right around the corner. We are looking forward to carrying this with us to outdoor and hope to keep improving."
The Bears will kick off the outdoor season at the Running Eagles Season Opener in Marietta, GA on February 27th.
