Blake Maupin was crowned individual champion at the MSC Fall Invitational at Bowling Green Country Club Tuesday, winning the tie-break playoff after 54-holes of play. The Bears landed seventh as a team, closing the books on the fall season.
Blake Maupin tucks career win number four under his belt following an impressive final-round performance in which the senior shot a 70 (-2). Following the last 18, Maupin was locked with Lindsey Wilson's Sebastian Sandin in first, forcing a playoff to determine a winner. Both shot for par on the first hole to stay tied, moving on to the ninth hole. Maupin shot for par, besting Sandin who bogeyed the par four.
Maupin opened the competition with a 73 (+1), which landed him in a three-way tie for third after 18 holes. His 72 (E) in the second round moved him up to a tie for second, while eventual playoff contender Sandin sat in fourth. Hole five saw the Richmond, Ky. native tally an eagle on a par five, complimenting the three birdies he finished the round with. Round three saw both Maupin (70) and Sandin (69) card their best scores of the tournament, totaling 215. Maupin was locked in, shooting for six birdies in the final round.
After day one, the Bears were in fifth, tied with Campbellsville at +26. The Bears shot a team score of 309 on the final day to finish seventh.
Just outside the top-20 was
Lawson Hon, who's best round came in the second half of day one when the freshman shot a 71 (-1). Hon clubbed par on 12 of the 18 holes, finishing with three birdies. He finished tied for 21
st with a 54-hole score of 226 (+10).
A stroke behind Hon was
Joshua Wiese who carded a 227 (+11) on the tournament with scores of 78, 72, and 77. Wiese carded three birdies in each round.
Inside the top-50 was freshman
Jonathan Bryant, who competed as an individual and finished tied for 39
th. Bryant carded his score in the opening round with a 75 (+3) and would finish at 236 (+20).
Broc Crist came in at 50
th overall, shooting scores of 81, 77, and 75. Individual
Nate Feese placed 53rd, climbing five spots from his day one rank with an 80 (+8) in the final round.
Tyler Ford finished 73
rd with a 54-hole score of 263 (+47).
The Bears end the fall campaign with promise, booking five podium team finishes in as many events and claiming Coach Reinstetle's first career win. The team will return to action in the spring semester, with schedule and details to be available in the coming weeks.
