Cincinnati, OH – The University of Pikeville men's and women's track & field team were in action Saturday afternoon at the Mount St. Joseph University Invitational. Both teams performed well, with the women finishing in fifth place and the men finishing in sixth.
On the men's side,
Noah Thomas,
Bobby Allums,
Avery Adderley, and
Ethan Moore were in action. Thomas continued his great indoor season, winning both the shot put and weight throw events. He won the shot put on his final throw with a toss of 13.97m, besting second place by .23 meters and picking up 10 points for the Bears. In the weight throw, he broke his personal best by .36 meters with a throw of 15.52m to win the event and collect another ten points for UPIKE.
Allums ran in both the 200m and 400m races for the Bears. In the 200, he finished in third place at 23.66 to score six points for UPIKE. In the 400, he ran a 55.44 to finish in ninth place.
Adderley competed in the 60m preliminaries and the high jump. In the 60, he ran a 7.80 before not recording a height in the high jump.
Moore tossed a 9.90m in the shot put before finishing in 12th in the weight throw with a 10.16m throw.
Miracle Taylor,
Valerie Kendrick,
Verlecia Scarlett, and
Bethany Tackett all competed for the women in both the shot put and weight throw events. Taylor smashed her personal best in the weight throw, winning the event with a 13.69m toss that scored 10 points for the Bears and also broke the program record. In the shot put, she finished in third place with a personal best 10.15m mark to score six more points for the Bears.
Kendrick won the shot put with a throw of 11.86m to best the competition by over a meter and a half and score 10 points for UPIKE. In the weight throw, she finished in sixth place with a throw of 10.83m for one point for the Bears.
Scarlett was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 10.35m to score eight points before finishing in third place in the weight throw with a 12.13m mark. This scored another six points for the Bears.
In the weight throw, Tackett threw a personal best 10.13m to finish in eighth place while she finished in 10th place in the shot put with a throw of 9.05m.

After a successful day in Cincinnati, the Bears travel to the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships next weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Norton Sport Complex in Louisville, Kentucky.
