Louisville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's and women's track & field teams competed this weekend at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, KY.
Noah Thomas highlighted the Bears efforts, with podium finishes in both the shot put and weight throws. In the shot put on Friday, he placed third with a personal best throw of 14.63m. This afternoon in the weight throw, Thomas qualified for NAIA Indoor Nationals with a toss of 16.51m to place second and set a new personal best. Both marks in the shot put and weight throw are program records. After qualifying for NAIA Outdoor Nationals in the discus throw last spring, he qualifies for the first time in his career for indoor nationals.
Also finishing on the podium for the Bears on Friday was freshman
Valerie Kendrick, who's 12.58m throw in the shot put gave her a third-place finish. She finished off her weekend in the weight throw today, setting a personal best with a throw of 11.07m.
In the weight throw,
Miracle Taylor finished fourth today with a program record and personal best 14.57m toss. She also finished ninth in the shot put with a personal best 10.33m mark.
Verlecia Scarlett finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.11m that destroyed her previous personal best by 1.35 meters. She finished sixth in the shot put with another personal best of 11.62, nearly besting her previous mark by a meter.
In the high jump,
Avery Adderley finished with a clearance of 1.71m.
Bobby Allums just missed out on the finals in the 60m dash with a time of 7.08 to finish ninth in the preliminaries. In the 200-meter dash preliminaries, Allums finished with a time of 23.06.
Ethan Rowe finished with a throw of 11.80m in the weight throw and a mark of 11.08m in the shot put.
Ethan Moore smashed his personal best by over a meter in the weight throw with a mark of 11.28m.
Bethany Tackett had a toss of 8.46m in the shot put.
