Columbia, SC – The University of Pikeville men's and women's track & field teams began their 2022 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the CIU Rams Invitational hosted by Columbia International University. The men finished in eighth place out of 18 teams while the women finished in ninth place out of 18 teams.
Men
Noah Thomas finished the meet with the most points scored for UPIKE on the men's side with 22. He won the hammer throw by over four meters Friday with a personal best 47.81m mark to score 10 points. On Saturday, he placed second in the discus throw with a toss of 43.78m to score eight more points and finished fifth in the shot put with a 12.91m mark to score four more points for the Bears.
Bobby Allums scored 3.5 points for UPIKE in the 200-meter dash. He ran a personal best 22.32 and finished in a tie for fifth place with Emmanuel College's (Ga.) Jaylin Holiday. In the 100- meter dash, Allums ran an 11.61 to finish in 13th place.
Avery Adderley,
Ethan Rowe, and
Ethan Moore also competed for the Bears this weekend. In Adderley's first outdoor competition with UPIKE, he didn't record a height in the high jump and ran a 35.81 in the 200-meter dash.
Rowe finished in 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 27.59m. In the shot put, he had a mark of 10.29m to finish in 14th. The discus throw saw Rowe record a toss of 28.42m.
In Moore's first outdoor meet with the Bears, he placed 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 27.42m. He had a mark of 9.89m in the shot put and 27.94m in the discus throw.
Women
Miracle Taylor,
Valerie Kendrick, and
Verlecia Scarlett all scored points in the meet for the Bears. In her first outdoor meet, Taylor finished fourth in the hammer throw with a 34.60m mark to score five points and lead UPIKE in the event. Kendrick finished sixth in the hammer with a throw of 33.78m, scoring three points. Scarlett placed eighth with a 33.22m mark to score one point.
In the shot put, Taylor scored five points with a fourth-place finish and a throw of 10.73m. Scarlett finished right behind her in fifth at 10.72m, scoring four points. Kendrick placed eighth at 10.55m to score one point.
Kendrick finished second in the discus throw at 37.02m to grab eight points for the Bears. Scarlett posted a mark of 23.76m and Taylor had a toss of 22.36m.
