Montreat, NC – The University of Pikeville men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Montreat College Invitational this weekend in their second outdoor meet of the season. The men's team scored 12 points while the women's team finished with 13 points.
On the men's side,
Noah Thomas scored all 12 points for the Bears. His performance was highlighted by the discus throw, where he set a new personal best with a throw of 47.69m, finishing fifth and scoring four points for UPIKE. This throw was good enough to hit the "B" standard for the NAIA and qualify him for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships for the second year in a row. In the hammer throw, Thomas scored eight more points for UPIKE with a new personal best 50.90m mark to finish second behind King University's Kolin Miller.
After her first outdoor meet last weekend,
Valerie Kendrick turned in another solid performance at Montreat. She scored 11 points for the Bears, with six in the discus and five in the shot put. In the discus, she broke her personal best from last weekend by over two meters with a throw of 39.55m to finish third. Her throw of 11.00m in the shot put was good for fourth place. Kendrick also competed in the hammer throw, where she set a new personal best of 35.04m.
Miracle Taylor scored two points for UPIKE in the hammer throw, finishing seventh with a mark of 40.85m to shatter her personal best by over six meters. In the shot put, she finished in 13th with a toss of 10.21m while she also competed in discus and recorded a mark of 19.08m.
Verlecia Scarlett had two Top-15 performances for the Bears this weekend in the shot put and hammer throw. In the hammer, she finished 13th with a personal best of 36.33m to beat her previous mark by nearly a meter. She finished 10th in the shot put at 10.38m and competed in the discus throw with her top throw being 25.34m.
Ethan Rowe recorded a new personal best in the discus for the Bears with a mark of 32.69m. He also competed in the shot put and hammer throw. In the shot put, he had a toss of 10.39m and the hammer he threw it 31.27m.
Ethan Moore hit a new personal best in the shot put at Montreat, with a mark of 10.02m. In the discus, he threw it 27.34m while he didn't record a mark in the hammer throw.
Bobby Allums competed in the 100-and 200-meter dashes for UPIKE. He ran a 11.49 in the 100 and a 24.20 in the 200 for the Bears.

The Bears return to action next Saturday when they travel to Berea, KY to compete at the Landon Bond Invitational hosted by Berea College.
