Renee Crooks named Player of the Week

WALESKA, Ga. – The University of Pikeville women's golf team finished one stroke behind the tournament champion in the East Tennessee Collegiate last week, but sophomore Renee Crooks finished atop the individual standings.

As a result, on Monday she was named the Appalachian Athletics Conference women's golfer of the week.

"Renee has played great all season and we were all thrilled for her to win this tournament," said Coach Nelson Scott. "Our entire team has been playing great, which is why we're off to such a solid start. Renee is a great young lady and we couldn't be happier for her."

Renee, a Toronto, Ontario, native, finished the tournament one-under par. She stood at 71 after Monday's round and was even par on Tuesday to win the tournament.

She finished two shots in front of Milligan's Katie Castle and three in front of her twin, Carly Crooks, to claim the crown.

It was the second tournament title of the season for Renee, who also came out on top in the season-opening UPike Fall Invitational in August. In the other two tournaments this season, she has finished second and third.

For Renee, the win in the East Tennessee Collegiate was her sixth career title.

This marks the fourth time the sophomore has been her league's player of the week. She took the honor three times as a freshman in the Mid-South Conference.

The Bears will be back in action on Oct. 16-17 in the TPC Deer Run Tournament in Silvis, Ill.
