Louisville, Ky. - The track and field Bears were back in action at the Mid-South Conference Championships in Louisville, Ky. this past weekend. Coach David Espinoza's squad was well represented with all-conference honors.
Men's Team:
Bobby Allums ran a 7.11 in the 60m dash and a 23.06 in the 200m dash. Allums also ran in the 400m dash and recorded a time of 53.04. Eli Fortman set a personal record with a 1:31.36 in the 600m run. In the high jump, Avery Adderley recorded a 1.70m.
Noah Thomas is the conference champion in the weight throw. He set a personal, school and conference record with a 18.48m toss while making A standard. Thomas also finished third and received third team all-conference with a 14.72m throw in the shot put. David Exum finished fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 14.23m.
Women's Team:
Heaven Carver set a personal and school record with a 10.65 in the 60m hurdles. Carver also posted a 1.30m in the high jump. In the long jump, Carver recorded a 4.26m. In the shot put, Valerie Kendrick finished second and earned second team all-conference with a 12.62m throw. Verlecia Scarlett had a 15.08m toss in the weight throw, good for second overall and second team all-conference. Gabby Cook continues to show improvement in the weight throw, this time throwing a 12.41m.
As a team, UPIKE finished seventh overall. Next up for Noah Thomas are the NAIA Indoor Nationals. The rest of Coach David Espinoza's squad will prepare for the upcoming outdoor track and field season.
