Danville, Ky. – Coach David Espinoza's track and field Bears were back in action this past weekend at the Centre Twilight.
On the women's side, Verlecia Scarlett got the Bears started with a second place finish in the hammer throw. Scarlett also made the finals in the shot put. Valerie Kendrick threw a season-best 33.91 in the hammer. Also in the hammer, freshman Gabby Cook threw a new personal-best 31.18m.
Heaven Carver continues to improve on the track side, recording a 13.82 in the 100m dash and a 29.32 in the 200m dash, both personal bests. Kylie Hall competed and debuted in the outdoor discus, shot put, hammer and javelin.
Noah Thomas took first in the hammer throw and then on his first throw in the javelin, threw a 49.26m, a new school record. Alex Rogers, David Exum and Aaron Watson all made their debuts in the javelin throw. Rogers collected two team points with a 38.56m throw in the javelin final.
In the hammer throw, David Exum took fourth and Aaron Watson set a personal record with a 36.54m toss. Watson also set a personal best in the shot put, throwing a 10.46m.
Bobby Allums took fifth in the 200 meter dash, collecting four team points for his squad. Eli Fortman rounded off the Centre Twilight meet by making his debut in the 5K.
The track and field Bears will be back in action at the EKU Rick Erdmann Twilight in Richmond, Ky. Friday and Saturday.
