Lexington, Ky. – Junior All-American thrower Noah Thomas highlighted a busy weekend for the track and field Bears at the Jim Green Invitational.
Noah Thomas threw a 55.52m in the hammer, setting a new school and personal record. The mark set by Thomas was better than three Division I competitors and qualified him for nationals in the event.
Elsewhere in the hammer throw, David Exum finished eighth and set a new personal best with a 48.63m toss. Alex Rogers capped off the throws with a 10.84m mark in the shot put, setting a new personal best.
On the track side, Bobby Allums ran a 11.22 in the 100 meter dash and freshman Eli Fortman ran a season-best 2:09.86 in the 800m.
Verlecia Scarlett continued her solid senior campaign by making the finals in both the shot put and hammer throw. Scarlett threw a 31.26 in the hammer and a 10.38 in the shot put. Sophomore Valerie Kendrick recorded a 11.13 in the shot put and a 36.33 in the discus. Kendrick made it to the finals in both events.
Also in the discus, Gabby Cook and Bethany Tackett threw new personal bests. Cook tossed a 29.90 while Tackett threw a 27.16. In the 100 meter hurdles, Heaven Carver ran a season-best 18.17.
Coach David Espinoza's track and field Bears will be back in action Sunday and Monday at the Mid-South Conference Championships in Williamsburg, Ky.
