PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – The University of Pikeville men's golf team set multiple school records in its first tournament of the season, played this week at StoneCrest Golf Course.

The Bears finished the UPike Fall Invite 10-under par for the event, breaking the school's best-ever mark for a two-round tournament.

The score of 566 (284-282) was good for second place in the field behind Northwestern Ohio, which finished at 564, posting identical scores of 282. Pikeville-B finished fourth in the eight-team field, recording scores of 301-296 for a two-day score of 601.

"We played some incredible golf this week," said Coach
Dustyn Reinstetle. "If we can play this well all season, we'll bring home a lot of trophies. I'm really proud of the way our teams played and how focused they were for the entire tournament."

Monday's 284 was a single-round record for the Bears. It lasted 24 hours before the team posted a final-round score of 282.

Sophomore Jon Bryant tied for medalist honors by shooting 7-under par 137. He began the final round four shots behind the leader, Northwestern Ohio's Noah Honinger, but caught him with a final round 68.

Bryant won medalist honors thanks to winning a two-hole playoff.

Graduate student
Blake Maupin finished the tournament at 4-under par, good for fifth place in the field.
Lawson Hon gave the Bears three players in the red, shooting a two-day score of 1-under par.

Seven individual players finished the event under par.
Â
Two more Bears finished in the tournament's Top 10.
Garrett Compton and Kobe Ingram finished tied for ninth at two-over par.
Tyler Ford just missed the top 10 with a finish of four-over.

The Bears will return to StoneCrest in two weeks to play in the Alice Lloyd Fall Invitational, slated for Sept. 11-12.
