SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. - University of Pikeville men's golf came in sixth place at the Whistling Straights Classic Tuesday afternoon.
For the second consecutive tournament, Kaeden Anderson stole the show with a second-consecutive first-place finish. Anderson's best round came in round two where he shaved three strokes from his round one score, including four birdies on the back nine. Anderson shot a 149 and finished +5, one stroke ahead of the second-place finisher.
Saul Crist, Jon Bryan, and Eli Shope finished tied for 37th place. Crist had a pair of birdies in round two. Bryant's best round came in round one where he shot an 81. Shope shot an 86 in round one then made an improvement in round two, shaving off five strokes for an 81 in round two.
Peyton Compton rounded out the results for the Bears with a vast improvement from round one to round two. Compton improved his score by 13 strokes, highlighted by recording a 38 (+2) on the back nine of round two.
The Bears were up against tough competition at this tournament. Two teams, Taylor (Ind.) and Bellevue (Neb.), were receiving votes in the most recent top 25 coaches' poll.
As a team, the Bears shot 644 and were +68, just four shots back of (RV) Bellevue. UPike finished tied with the University of Rio Grande for sixth out of the twelve teams that were at the tournament.
Coach Dustyn Reinstetle's team will be back in action next Tuesday and Wednesday in Adairsville, Ga., for the AAC Conference Showcase.
