Boyd named AAC Offensive Player of the Week

WALESKA, Ga. – A huge week for a member of the University of Pikeville women's soccer team has resulted in some attention from the conference office.

Jayla Boyd was named Offensive Player of the Week by the Appalachian Athletics Conference.

Boyd is a junior from Beavercreek, Ohio, who scored four goals and added an assist in two games last week.

She opened the week with two goals and an assist in a 3-3 tie at WVU Tech. Her first goal came in the seventh minute off a corner kick by Sara Ritter to tie the score at 1-1. The second also evened the count, this time at 2-2, coming in the 69th minute off a pass from Charlene Lofqvist.

After falling behind 3-2, Boyd found teammate Kylie Ritter in the 78th minute for the final score of the day.

In Saturday's 5-0 win over Bryan (Tenn.) College, coming in the AAC opener for both teams, Boyd wasted no time putting her team ahead when Lofqvist again found her in front of the net only 1:31 into the game.

She also opened scoring in the second half when she scored thanks to a pass from Sara Ritter in the 55th minute.

For the season, Boyd now has four goals and four assists, which has her tied for the league lead in both categories, and her 12 points leads the conference.

UPike is now 3-0-1 overall and 1-0 in AAC play, and returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when it visits Johnson (Tenn.) University for a 5 p.m. contest.
