Henson tabbed Offensive POW

CORBIN, Ky. – For quarterback Bryce Henson, it wasn't a bad performance in his first collegiate start. As a result, he was named AAC offensive player of the week on Monday.

Henson is a 6-1, 179-pound redshirt freshman from Germantown, Ohio. He was responsible for all six touchdowns in Saturday's 42-7 win over Andrew (Ga.) College.

He was 22 for 37 in the air, throwing for 218 yards and five touchdowns. He led the Bears with 75 yards rushing and a touchdown on only nine carries.

Saturday's scoring opened with Henson running for a three-yard touchdown. It was his third rushing touchdown of the season after picking up two last week after replacing injured starter Alex Hatton.

He is now second in the conference with three rushing touchdowns and fifth in the league with 121 yards on the ground.

In the air, his scores covered 8, 12, 6, 42 and 20 yards. He leads the league with five touchdown passes this season.

Henson is also in the league's Top 5 in several other categories this season. He is fourth in completions with 33; fifth in passes thrown with 61; fourth in passing yards with 344, and; third in completion percentage at 54.1.

As a result of those figures, he is second in pass efficiency at 122.0.

Henson is the second UPike quarterback to be named offensive player of the week and the fourth Bear to win a player of the week this season.

Henson and the Bears are 2-1 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday evening when they visit Cumberland (Tenn.) University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern time.
